In the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians, the refusal of each side to acknowledge each other as a legitimate national movement is closer to the heart of the problem than is any other issue.

(A) the refusal of each side to acknowledge each other as a legitimate national movement is closer to the heart of the problem than

pronouns are going to be the bane of my existence! note to self.. study these again...

i had it down to A and D (ultimately chose D)... because I saw that it needed to be closer...than rather than closer as...

i've got to remember that when I see a pronoun I ultimately need to search for the antecedent

that is not required here . THe conflict is the main subject of the sentence. that introduces a clause which isnt required . ( not sure whether its a clause)

Left with options A , C and E

Now the idiom is closer to this ... than to !!!

Hence E is also ELIMINATED

Now we are left with A and C

C is wrong because it uses another .

Another is used when there are more then two parties involved .

In this case its only Israelis and Palestinians.

Also if u go to see , the idiom used is between ...which is used to compare or distinguish two parts.

Hence A stays!
