Today, despite widely available technology such as high-resolution scanners and printers, counterfeiting is more difficult than it was at the time of the Civil War, when it was estimated that one-third of all currency in circulation was counterfeit.

I would go with A......same type of question was recently posted by someone on this forum few days back and there is a very good explanation for the same.......please go through the same

can you post that link. But still i will suggest you work on this, because i have played with choices in order to gain more clarity.

I went through the answer choices, in C I didn't like wide availability
in B today should have come initially not later

I received a PM asking me to comment.

The intended meaning of the original sentence is that today...counterfeiting is more difficult than it was at the time of the Civil War.

In B and C, it is not crystal clear what is being modified by today. It must be clear what a modifier is modifying. Eliminate B and C.

The correct answer is A.
