Profile Evaluation - GMAT Score 600 - PLEASE HELP

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here could let me know what my chances were of getting into a school in the 26-50 range (I'm not even going to bother applying to a top 25 school as the gmat average is around 700).

Gmat Score - 600
Degree: BSc Economics from a top 10 UK school - GPA approx 3.2-3.5
Work Experience: 1 year in an European Bank in Global Markets in NYC | 1.5 years by the time I start the MBA in Group Finance (Change Management) in another top European Bank in London.
Internships: SA at a Big 4 in Corporate Finance/ Boutique Strategy Consulting firm on a project for a top 10 Private Equity Firm/ SA at a top 10 accounting firm in Tax
Projects: Department of Energy in Indonesia
EC: Wrote in School Economics magazine / VP of a society

Hi ashmole2009 --

A 600 GMAT puts you in the running for some good schools, particularly since your GPA is decent (note though that a 3.2 is **very** different from 3.5; you may want to get a better handle on what your grades actually are equivalent to, in order to evaluate your chances more accurately). Your international profile is also interesting. It sounds like you're on the younger side, so any reason why you don't want to try the GMAT once more in order to raise your chances for a better-ranked school? We're willing to venture a bet that you could see some Top 20 schools open up to you with a GMAT score even in the 680-ish range. It might be worth another shot at the test (yes we know that it's a bear of an exam!! but there's a lot at stake and you have plenty of time before Round 1 deadlines start to surface).

Well, since your work experience is on the low side, and since you can for sure get higher than a 600, I'd suggest waiting another year, retaking the GMAT and applying then. Is there any reason for you NOT to do this? To me it makes sense. You only do B-school ONCE, and you want to make it count as much as humanly possible.
