Hi everyone!

I'm currently a Second-Year student at Darden and would love to take any questions that you may have. I will be available for the next week or so to answer any questions you may have, so get them in soon! I'll be back in the last week or so before Round 1 applications are due to answer anything last minute. For now - fire away, even if you are not applying Round 1!

A little about myself. I went to Harvard undergrad, did finance in New York City before business school (investment banking and research) and briefly worked at an online education start-up. I did my summer internship in consulting and am looking at consulting and tech as full-time career choices. One of my favorite parts about Darden are the professors, and I'm really excited about all the second-year elective classes I'm taking. One of the cooler things I'm doing is writing a business case with a well-known organizational behavior professor. I am a officer in the Tech Club, Education Club, and am also a career coach for first year students as well as being a member of the Student Admissions Committee at Darden.

Hi,

I am very excited to apply to Darden as one of the schools. My concern is I have only two years of work experience in Consulting - one year in India and one in the USA. Do schools of the level of Darden actually accept people with my level of experience? And is applying to Darden for 2012 even a worthwhile attempt?

Please let me know. I'll be waiting eagerly.

Hi there,

The average number of years of work experience prior to Darden is five. I myself had three. With that said, there are a couple of people who have fewer than that who have been admitted to Darden and are in my class. Overall, Darden is looking for applicants who have strong leadership potential, rich work experiences (and rich does not equal long), ability to work in teams, and core business skills. I would encourage you to reflect upon your background - if you believe you have developed these areas thoroughly, then by all means apply. If you have any significant work experience in undergrad, include that as well.

Business school is tough, so sometimes it benefits if you have a couple more years under your belt, but if you are ready to handle it, then communicate that to the admissions committee and apply wholeheartedly. Best of luck!

Thanks, that was really helpful. One other question is that when I apply to Darden, the work experience I quote in my application, is it the work experience I have while applying, or the work experience I will have at the time the session begins?

I think they will ask you for the work experience you will have up until the point of matriculation, but the application will be clear about this.
