I have a problem in quant question from GMAT prep.

Q) - Rates for having a manuscript typed at a certain typing service are $5 per page for the first time a page is revised. If a certain manuscript has 100 pages, of which 40 were revised only once, 10 were revised twice, and the rest required no revisions, what was the total cost of having the manuscript typed?

Ans) THE WAY I HAVE SOLVED.

Total no. of pages revised once is 40, cost = 40*3=$120 -----(i)
Total no. of pages revised twice is 10, it means 20 pages revised once , cost= 20*3=$60
Total no. of pages not revised are= 100-40-20= 40 pages
Terfore, 40*5= $200
Total=200+120+60= $380
BUT ans is $680 how?????
Can any one explain it.

Hey Rishi,

It looks like you're missing some of those rates in what you've typed...the only number given in the problem is $5 but your solution uses the price $3 a few times. Do you have that full problem handy?

My guess is that there's an initial per-page setup cost that you're omitting - it it's $5 to set up a page and $3 for each revision, then you'd have:

$5 * 100 pages (each one has to be typed a first time): $500
$3 * 40 pages that are revised once each: $120
$3 * 10 pages that were revised twice * 2 (to account for that pair of revisions): $60

That adds up to $680...is that how the problem was written?
