Forty gallons of gas is required to travel 400 miles using a 1200 cc engine . If the capacity of the engine is directly varying with the volume of the gas, then how many gallons of gas is required to travel 600 miles using 1500 cc engine ?

a.20
b.27.5
c.32.5
d.37.5
e.75

since volume of gas varies directly with capacity, when capacity goes up from 1200 to 1500 (25% increase), the volume required to travel 400 miles will also go up 25%, from 40 to 50 gallons.

So 50 gallons will be required to travel 400 miles.
To travel 600 miles (50% farther) we need 50% more gallons, or a total of 75 gallons. Pick E.
