Besides is used particuarly as EXCEPT ..... Besides choclate,which flavour u like ? like OTHER THAN

In addition to is " additionally to this what els"

In this Q... i would go with E by means of Parallelism... B option to prevent or inhibit is not parallel...
all the options aren't parallel besides E

Thanks this was quite helpful, if i understood you correctly then if Option E would have been -

In addition to possibly preventing or inhibiting

It would have been correct ?

The word its refers to tea or research cannot be ascertained
hence A,B,C are out
In D the phrase "preventing" is not parallel with "inhibiting of"
only E has the right format where "preventing" is parallel with "inhibiting"
