Hello All,

I m a Accounting Professional (Non-CA) with 4.25 Years of Financial & Accounting BPO experience, which includes 3 Years of People Management exp.and approx. 8 months of International Work Conditions experience.

I intend to join classes for the fall'08 and have identified the following colleges in my Wish List:

- S. P Jain, Dubai
- AIM, Manila
- NUS, Singapore
- ISB, Hyderabad
- Judge College, Cambridge

Well, i quit my work on 14th Sept'07 after a 3 month's Notice, so that i could focus completely on my studying. Had planned this well in advance though.

Before i started my Studies, i took the Diagnostic Test from mba.com and scored a 480. expected a score that much anyways..nevertheless...got into full swing for studying..and aimed at writing my gmat in last week of Oct....

My Accuracy Rates from OG10+OG11 were :

Quant : 91 % (Questions Solved 250)
DS : 82 % (Questions Solved 140)

CR : 78 % (Questions Solved 205)
SC : 71 % (Questions Solved 190)
RC : was supposed to start it this week..

Now getting to the root of the problem :

But as fate could have it, this monday had a severe Bike crash and am Bed-ridden cos of the Injuries and will be that way for atleast a week more.

I feel miserable cos

1. My whole plan has taken a whole U Turn, also, the whole purpose of quitting work doesnt seem to be in its place anymore and most importantly,

2. If i donot write that GMAT, then some of my College's deadlines(Mostly are 15th Nov) will be missed...and i will be left with fewer options, which will lead to fewer Converts and eventualy resulting in a Riskier Mud Path...

Now what i need is some suggestions from you, the experienced LOT, on the following :

- I havent booked my GMAT date as yet, so when do you suggest, i book it?

- When i started off, I actually planned to take close to 10 Mock Gmats, but that seems like a Distant dream now, but anyways, how many Mock's as per your respective exp. would help bring in the confidence to take on the actual GMAT?

- Do you suggest i get into coaching classes like Princeton/IMS/KAPLAN or should i just pour myself into OG's and Princeton's for the little time i am left with?

- Lastly, can anyone help me mentally formulate a Road-Map for Further preparation for my GMAT?(Experimental Question !!!?)

Sorry for the Elaborate email, blame it on the Drowsiness these Painkillers are imbibing into me :))

hey

Its unfortunate that this happened to you so close to your test date, but you know what its life, and we work with that you have now. No point crying over spilt milk.

You say that ur college deadlines are Nov 15, leave the GMAT aside, are you ready with everything else for the apps? Rcommendations, essays, trasncripts, well u know the drill. In addition to the gmat studying you need to figure out if u can put time for that as well. Cant u apply in a later round, the second round? i think those are in Jan, correct?

In terms of studying, well, its a matter of week, during this time, all u need to do is practice at ur own pace, whatever u CAN, dont push urself, infact if u can even read the questions and answer explanations and canot write, do that so that ur mind doesnt lose the focus. Otherwsie getting back to the grind in one go is going to be tough.

I dont have a plan to be able to give you, but I think its imp to assess the situation:

- after this week, u have the entire 24 hrs (minus sleep) to study and take tests etc, so thats a HUGE plus esp for people who are working.
- The break times can be used to follow up on recos, essays etc.

Overall, u have time, so make a timetable, put things inot perspective, write down what u need accomlished in what week and get cracking!

Dont consider this a setback but a challenge to still make it. However, if u think after analyzing everything that u r cutting it very fine, it makes sense to defer things to next year, take the test soon though since u are still in the swing of things. Sorry if my typing was bad and thoughts all over the place.

Good luck though and stay strong...ull pull out of this just fine! Store that bike in ur basement for a while! :-)

Hey Guys(esp. Wongee and the "Guest"),

I had wrote my SP Jain Dubai Aptitude test on 30.09.07 and i just got the results, a unbelievable 93 percentile.the Cut-off was 75 Percentile..though i went in there ABSOLUTELY unprepared and the result is completely unexpected.

I am working hard on my GMAT along with my Appln Essays and would like to thank Wongee and the Guest for re-igniting the torque in me(yet again !!) Will never forget this help with words though..

Also, will keep you posted of the Hits-and-Misses during this period...

Cheers,

Irfan

Sorry to hear about your accident; I hope you're recovering quickly.

Most people study for the test for 2-3 months. Applications also take a ton of time. You'll just have to do the best you can given limited time. Courses typically run for 8-10 weeks, so if you want to work with someone, you may have to do private tutoring if you need to take the test before 15 Nov.

Overall, don't take more than 4 or 5 practice tests. 10 is overkill. You're training for a marathon - you don't run 10 marathons to train. You're training comes in all of the studying you do between tests. Taking a test is just to practice putting everything together and see what your strengths and weaknesses are so you can adjust your study plan.

There are a lot of resources in the wiki about formulating a study plan - developing one is very specific to your strengths, weaknesses, timeline, and goals. Go take a look and put together something that works for you.
Please note: I do not use the Private Messaging system! I will not see any PMs that you send to me!!
