IMO (A)

Stimulus is saying: average rate of violent gun crime increased. 50% higher from other states that do not have strict gun control laws. therefore, to reduce gun crime -> remove gun control laws.

we want to weaken the argument

(A) weakens it. says, even though the AVG rate ^, the ANNUAL rate is lower in states with the laws. So to reduce annual gun crime > keep the laws

(B) strengthens the argument in stimulus

(C) has nothing to do with the stimulus

(D) this one might trick you. but the annual rate in NON-VIOLENT CRIMES....the stimulus talks about VIOLENT crimes.

(E) Again has nothing to do with the conclusion of stimulus

As for my understanding It should be Answer E.

Assumption 1: state with no strict gun law, most of people own the gun which reduce the violent crime
Assumption 2: state with no strict gun lwa, many people own the gun and involve in crime in other state where have strict gun law.

I was sticked with D, but my skill now settled by getting the reason: Author talking about VIOLENT, considering NON-VIOLENT is out of scope. that's the point :-) .
