Veritas Quant Focus or not ?

Hi,

I urgently need your advice: should I enroll the upcoming Veritas Quant Focus week-end ?

Background: I have been studying the GMAT for the past three months. It's my second try (firt one was in 2005). Have gone through all the MGMAT prep books, which are fantastic, and completed the OG quant and verbal reviews, still have part of OG 11 and OG 12 to tackle. Currently living in Saigon so limited access to prep courses and material.

Situation: latest MGMAT Cat score = 600 (Q36,V36). Target score in 4 weeks = 700.

Solution: boost the quant part and consolidate the verbal part. Just found on the internet that there was a Veritas Quant focus next week end in Hong Kong.

Question: do you think it's worth the trip (I have to fly to HK and stay there for 3 days) and has anyone attended that class ? What is the question level studied ? Is it more like a math refresher program or something relatively advanced ? Will it really help me boost my quant score or should I just continue practicing the OG ?

If I decide to go, I will have to enroll to the program and book everything by tomorrow so any inputs will be really helpful.

Buy the books instead of enrolling in the class. Veritas is quite poor in quant. The books however, do have a good range of questions and they are made by Veritas. I would not recommend Veritas as I am currently a student. Mind you I do live in North America, so your Hong Kong instructor could be much better than mine.

But overall, I felt I've learned nothing new conceptually in math through Veritas. Buy their books not their course!

Thanks for your advice. Hum... so may be a better idea to practice, practice and practice then ... I have gone through all the math concepts with MGMAT and there are no major shadow areas. It's just that when I do the MGMAT CATs, every question seems just so different from what I have seen in the OG or practice books and it takes me some time to figure out what concept or technique to apply.

Your score is interesting. I got Q 35 V 35 and got a 560. Interesting to see how one point on each section can make a difference in score. My test date is always in late Nov.


Veritas has some really good questions, esp in GEO where questions involve anywhere to 4-6 processes. OG questions are too easy. I wouldn't rely on them at all. I've seen posts from people who only studied out of that book, done well on the questions but scored poorly on the actual test. MGMAT has some good quant guides and has questions that test the concepts learned and difficult application questions but their question base relies a lot on OG. Veritas quant books are great because its all of their own questions. I find that cherry picking strategies from different sources works best for me.

Time to hit the books.
