Dear All

Recently .. I was sharing some reviews of TOP GMAT scores , with a formal GMAT test taker and a faculty to one of the GMAT prepration classes in my city ( i.e Pune, India )
As per him.. It hardly matters , at what point of time you give the exam.. because whenever u r giving the exam.. u r practically competing against Asians only .. who r all good in quant .. so end of the day .. you only get advantage of being exceptional in verbal if you want to get a good score .

He proved his fact by stating time zone differences of few states in Canada and US ...

I am not debating on which subject ..i.e quant or verbal is important .. but would like to understand .. is it fine if i conclude that while giving the GMAT practically asians are competing with Asians only

Regards

Vikas

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. The percentiles are not calculated on a minute by minute basis. They are calculated over time and the questions are standardized through extensive "pre-testing". You are judged according to how well you do on the questions, which determines how difficult the next question will be. You can get a 700+ and do well in quant or verbal or both.

When you take the GMAT, you are *not* 'competing' with the people taking the test at the same time as you. You're 'competing' with everyone from around the world who has taken the GMAT in the last couple of years. Your time zone makes no difference whatsoever.

If a GMAT instructor is telling you otherwise, that's truly disgraceful. No one with such basic misunderstandings about how the test works should be teaching the GMAT. Perhaps you could enlighten him on the subject so at least he doesn't repeat these kinds of ridiculous theories to other test takers.

I wonder if Vikashee's source is the same person who told one of my former students (in India as well) that the test-makers have a special/different GMAT for each country (i.e., GMAT for Canadians, GMAT for Germans, etc.) Based on this, she was making plans to fly to Korea to take the test, since she was under the impression that the Korean GMAT is easier than the Indian GMAT.

The crazy thing is that I think I was unable to convince her otherwise. When I asked her where she got her information, she explained that it was common knowledge.

Go figure.

Cheers,
Brent
