Helped Need to Improve in Quant!

by righty123 » Sat Feb 13, 2010 8:51 pm
Hey guys,

It seems that I have plateaued in my quant abilities (averaging 42.)

I have gone through OG 11, the hardest PR math bins in the softcover book, and have done two of MGMAT questions banks on the topics I am most weak on.

It seems that regardless of my pacing during the section, I seem to be getting the same score.

Any advice as to what I should tackle next in order help improve my score?
(I have 5 days left until I take the real thing!)

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can share!

if you need more harder problems to do you can try these: https://www.gmathacks.com/ they get emailed to you...

but question... you say you've plateaued but when you do problems in say the OG do you get them all correct?

Hey righty123,
With most ppl ,the major problem when they have plateaued is that they are repeating the same mistakes again and again.Instead of pacing,I would suggest you to go through all the tests that you have attempted and note all the mistakes that you have made.Furthermore, you can classify the mistakes in a grid column and set them according to their priority.[Ex:-Mistakes due to time constraint, due to overlooking some data, not reading the ques. carefully, memorising the wrong concept etc.]
After that ,you should work on the conceptual mistakes.Rest can be rectified in a priority order.
Once you do this, attempt some tests and practice ques. and gauge whether you have really improved on those weak areas.
[I will suggest to not pace through the practice ques.]

After, you have set things in order, then you can start pacing urself and using shortcut techniques.

I hope the above strategy works for you.It though has helped me a lot in my schooling years.

But most imp. of all, this is just a suggestion.Only adopt the strategy that you are comfortable with.
It takes time and effort to explain, so if my comment helped you please press Thanks button :)

Just because something is hard doesn't mean you shouldn't try,it means you should just try harder.
