Does Z lie between X and Y?

Distance between x and y is greater than distance between y and z.Does z lie between x and y on the number line?
a)xyz<0
b)xy<0

you have not copied the question correctly. It says "distance between z and z"

Corrected,it should be between y and z.

assuming you meant 'between x and z' I found the OA to be E on another forum. E does seem to be right.

pls double check.


a)insufficient since when xy<0 and z>0, z is not between x and y but when yz<0 and x>0, z is between x and y.

b)insufficient since no mention of z

a) and b) means z>0 which is insuff as follows

x----0---z---y = yes or y----0---z---x = yes or y----0---x---z = no.

not sure if this is the best way to approach in the exam though...anyone know a shorter/surer way of doing this??
