Main Idea and Tone Questions

Dear All,

I will be writing GMAT next month. Although I prepared for 3 months and tried to solve OG and went through the MGMAT Reading Comprehension guide, I am always making mistakes in "Main Idea" and "Tone" questions :?. I am not sure what's wrong and how can I improve this?
Need your expert opinion that how may I come over of this situation?

Please help me.

For Main Idea -

Consider each paragraph a dot and connects all dots.

> Read few lines of first paragraph until you get a context of the subject.
> Read first line of second paragraph and see how it is connected to subject. For example - Explain in detail a part of subject, giving example of subject, explaining a counter argument of subject etc.
> Repeat the second step for all the others paragraph.

For Tone -
See how many views (including author's view) in the RC and how they are related to main idea. you will get the idea of tone by related author's view to subject.

To get good at Main Idea questions, be sure to know the 4 most common passage themes (Different perspectives, The fix, The explanation and The prediction)
The sooner you can identify the passage theme, the sooner you can identify the main idea (this is covered in lesson #6 in my free set of Reading Comprehension videos: https://www.gmatprepnow.com/module/gmat- ... prehension)

Thanks Guys for reply. I scored 660 (Q-48 and V-32) and 5 in Essay. Brent, I scored 5 in essay after going through the podcast for essay by GMATPrep, I am very much thankful to you guys.

Whoa! Thanks Brent for those 4 types of passage themes. Will try to implement them and let you know whether I could identify the passage theme.
