high temperature

by sanju09 » Mon Mar 16, 2009 3:01 am
The average (arithmetic mean) high temperature of five days, Monday through Friday was 86 degrees Farenheit; if Friday's high temperature reduced the average (arithmetic mean) high temperature of four days, that is Monday through Thursday, by 1 degree Farenheit, what was the high temperature, in degrees Farenheit, of Friday?
OA: 82 degrees Farenheit
M+T+W+TH+F = 86 * 5 = 430

if friday not included avg. of rest of the days

M+T+W+TH = 87 * 4 = 348

friday's temp = 430 - 348 = 82
