Let x = 10a + bpradeepkaushal9518 wrote:If the sum of the digits of the positive two-digit number x is 4, what is the value of x?
(1) x is odd.
(2) Twice the value of x is less than 44.
Then a + b = 4
(1) x is odd does not give us an exact information about the values of a and b.
If a = 1 and b = 3, then x = 13
If a = 3 and b = 1 then x = 31
So, (1) is NOT SUFFICIENT.
(2) 2x < 44 or x < 22 or (10a + b) < 22
If a = 1 and b = 3 then x = 13, which is the only possible value of x.
So, (2) is SUFFICIENT.
The correct answer is
(B)
.
