GMAT in 5 Days

by mjoeb » Tue May 12, 2009 8:19 pm
Hi,

In exactly 5 days, I will be writing my GMAT.

So far, I have went through the OG 11 and now working through verbal.

I know CAT exams are very important- but I have a fear of them. I'm also scared that if I get a horrible score, it'll shoot my confidence down and I won't be able to think straight on the actual exam date.

I know myself well enough to know this is how I think.

I am one of those people who wrote the exam numerous times and unfortunately, the first three times was just in poor attitude. I didn't prepare enough and I didn't know how to accept the fact that I needed to do more than learning basics.

I am not aiming too high. I only want a range of 550-600 or above. I have taken CAT exams previously and they are skewed. (You can check my past posts to see my CAT exam scores).

Please help me if you can- should i take CATS or just keep doing questions and analyzing them?

Cheers.

hey...just my 2 cents...

I wrote the Gmat in Dec last year and scored a 530....I took about 6 Kaplan Cats and 2 GMATPreps.

I found the exam is VERY similar to the gmatprrp CAT so this time around (I hope to write in 2-3 weeks...test still not booked) I went through all of OG 11 and 12 and already did the GmatPrep 4 times...scores were scewed since some repeat questions, but on the 4th time, I honestly saw only like 2 Q and 2-3 V that were repeats and if I knew the answer, I would re-work it out and wait 2 minutes to make it as real as possible.

I HIGHLY recommend you do 1 or 2 CAT's before your test. This is a must in my eyes. It will make you that much more comfortable while writting and you will know how your timing is.

So does that mean I should use GMAT Prep?

Or can I use whichever one I like?

I was thinking of using MGMAT.

Dude at this point you have less than 5 days before the exam. The next three days? memorize your strategies and formulas. Take the CATs download the material from MBA.com and do the tests. make sure you understand the questions and how you got your results (right and wrong). On the day before the exam relax no Gmat stuff even if you are tempted don't touch the The GMAT!!!
You can do it. just try to focus!!

DO NOT TOUCH MGMAT....firstly...i hear they are great, but the quant is def. harder and you score might be scewed a little below what you actual score is and that could affect your confidence..

download the gmat prep from mba.com and do those 2 test and go through each question...

I prep best for tests by cramming. I'm in college, so I'm used to studying until 1, 2am for an exam at 8am. I'm taking the GMAT next Monday, and while I plan on taking it easy the day before, I will be hitting the books hard for the next week.

I think it's important that you take the two GMATPrep CATs (space them out - one every couple days) and then go over every problem you got wrong and make sure you understand *why*. Also go over the problems you got right but guessed on -- understand how you would solve that problem in the future.

If you've already taken the GMATPrep CATs don't take them again, since your score will be skewed since you will have seen the questions before. In that case, I think it would be fine to take MGMAT as long as you are aware that the quant is a little harder than it will be on the test and don't a lower quant score than expected screw up your confidence.

Also do the AWAs when you take your practice CATs, even though no one will grade them. The GMAT is a marathon, so make sure you are prepped for the whole thing.

Good luck!
