{A} - INCORRECT; Modifier issue
{B} - INCORRECT; Modifier issue - process is not using the technology
{C} - INCORRECT; Meaning issue- meaning has been completely reversed & has become illogical
{D} - INCORRECT; Modifier issue
{E} - CORRECT

Yes, we need Scientists to have the modifier "using a new.." associated with it.

Just because a word appears or is omitted from an answer choice doesn't mean its any more or less correct. It's always best to analyze the function of the word within the sentence. Is it part of a grammatical error and should be changed? Is it required for the meaning of the sentence and therefore necessary? What a word DOES is always more valuable them judging its sudden appearance or disappearance when compared to (A).
