Start:
I started my GMAT preparation in October [I forgot to mention, my first mock test score in october was 580] , here is the first advice I got, which I relegiously followed:
- DO NOT refer to a LOT of material. concentrate on basics for 2 weeks and then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.
- Stay positive, if you have worked hard for it, you will do it.
- Take gold seekers membership on Scorechase for practice
- You have got nothing to loose, nothing is the end of the road. Keep working at it.

Given the advice, here is the material I recommend:

- Manhattan SC for sentence correction - dont read it digest it.
- OG11 - read math concepts, practice SC ONLY after you have completed Manhattan SC
- beatthegmat forum be active, keep visiting and answer questions, it gives a lot of confidence.
- Scorechase Gold Seekers Cove subscription
- GMATPrep tests [ take them more than 2 times to exhaust all questions from the bank]
- Kaplan tests [I hate them, but if you are scoring around 700 in GMATPrep then these definitely help[although the max I got in Kaplan was 680]

And thats it for the prep!!

Final day of the exam

- Took rest, as is always wisely adviced. Believe me you would need it in verbal.
- Reached an hr earlier and relaxed.

GMAT exam

AWA: easy, just look around for some tips.

Math:
I saw quite a few questions on algebra. I was surprised to see no questions on mean/median/SD.

Verbal:
- Got 3 RCs, one on pueblo culture, The other two RCs ... one was political and other was about butterflies .
- SCs were purely GMAT type, Manhattan SC will do it.
- CRs always strong for me ..

Overall, was expecting somewhere around 720 , 40 marks I guess bonus, Beat the GMAT Helped.

All the best all for your preps.

I don't understand the scoring on the GMAT - does 760/770/780 only represent the percentile that you scored on the exam in comparison to other students?

How can 51 and 45 be 760 one year and another score the next?
