IMO E

Must use "and was" at the end due to parallelism so B and C are out

in D "that the man had a short temper, (that) should not anger him, and was (parallelism)

Between A and E

A uses "of the man's short temper, told she should not anger him, and was" (Possessive Noun for the first part and noun for the 2nd - not parallel again).

E is fine
