Hi,
I have applied to the below three Canadian schools for fall 2009. I am just listing down a few factors that I am looking at.

1.McGill University – Desautels (Status: Haven’t yet got an interview call)
- High regard for McGill degree in the US.
- 2 year program (might work well during these difficult times)
- Very cost effective

2. Sauders – UBC (Status: Interview Done – Decision Pending)
- 15 month MBA with internship
- Slightly costlier than the other two
- Job prospects at Vancouver?

3. HEC – Montreal (Status: Received Admit)
- Lesser heard of than the other two (Perhaps because it’s missing in the FT rankings)
- 12 month intensive
- Location Montreal might not help from job prospective and I don’t speak French
- Cheaper as it is in Quebec

A little about me. I am an Indian with of 4 years experience in IT and want to move into strategic consulting with specialisation in IT. Could you please let me know if there are any more factors that need to be considered especially in terms of Job prospects after MBA (considering the present scenario)?

Thanks in advance
Jon

Strategy consulting

Being an ex-strategy consulting, I can say with some certainty what it really comes down to is what schools firms already recruit from. At my previous employer (a big 3 strategy firm) we exclusively recruited from U of T (Rotman) for US schools for post-MBA jobs and occasionally, though not often, McGill; Queens and Ivey for post-undergrad jobs.

My advice would be the following: If you want to go to school this year, go to McGill because of its stronger reputation in the US. Do not go to HEC unless you have strong financial reason to do so. If you haven't missed the deadline (I believe they have rolling admissions), try the Queen's MBA in IT.

Hey Jonathan,

Which school did you go to finally?

I have an admit from McGill and am not sure if I should go for it.
