DS-4 digit No

by nitya34 » Sat Jul 25, 2009 2:37 am
If w, x, y, and z are the digits of the four-digit number N, a positive integer, what is the remainder when N is divided by 9?

1. w + x + y + z = 13
2. N + 5 is divisible by 9
Many of the great achievements of the world were accomplished by tired and discouraged men who kept on working.

IMO D.

Stmnt 1: w + x + y + z = 13

Sufficient

(Note: A number is divisible by 9 when the sum of its digits is divisible by 9)

If the some of digits any number is 13, when divided by 9 will always give the remainder as 4. Just divide the sum of the digits by 9 you will get the remainder.

Stmnt 2: N + 5 is divisible by 9

Sufficient

Same rule applies, in this case also you will get remainder as 4.
