In bourgeois culture, where it is considered that running a machine is less noble than to be a lawyer or a metaphysician, parents often make great sacrifices to put their children through secondary school and college.

(A) where it is considered that running a machine is less noble than to be a lawyer or a metaphysician
(B) where it is considered more noble to be a lawyer or a metaphysician than to run machines
(C) which consider that running machines is less noble than to be a lawyer or a metaphysician
(D) which considers it more noble to be a lawyer or a metaphysician than running machines
(E) considering it more noble being a lawyer or a metaphysician than to run a machine

what is the source of this question ?

I am not convinced in B : 'where' modifying to culture.
So knowing source is very important here.

Idiom problem

A & C - wrong idiom - consider that consider should not be followed by as, that
D & E - which is used wrongly and culture considering i totally wordy and awkward..

Copying the quote from Erin for your refeence:
Following strict grammar, you should use where to refer to places, when for periods of time. However, many people use where to refer to introduce adjective clauses and can be replaced by at which or in which.

In this question, however, this grammar point is a red herring; you should focus on the parallelism first.

(B) where it is considered more noble to be a lawyer or a metaphysician than to run machines
(C) which consider that running machines is less noble than to be a lawyer or a metaphysician
(D) which considers it more noble to be a lawyer or a metaphysician than running machines
(E) considering it more noble being a lawyer or a metaphysician than to run a machine

Consider XY is the right idiom no "to be" to be used :)

How is B right?

I chose B first then changed the answer to nothing as I am not satisfied with any answer.

answer is B ....i have seen many questions in gmat prep and og ,in which " where "can refer to society ,so im assuming that where can also refer to culture.

moreover in one of Ron's explanation he also admitted this same.

B is not saying "Considered to be more noble" - this would be wrong.
It is saying "Considered more noble..."
