The human growth hormone, made by the pituitary gland, is secreted during sleep in higher concentrations than when awake.

E: "when asleep than when awake", who's asleep and who's awake? logically the hormone cannot asleep or awake.

"during waking hours" .. i don't find the usage waking hours correct...

but what is grammatically incorrect about the usage of "waking hours"? waking is a present participal used to modify hours...
