Japanese and French

AT least 100 students at a certain high school study Japanese. If 4% of students who study french also study japanese, do more students at school study French than Japanese?

(1) 16 students at school study both French and Japanese
(2) 10% of student who study Japanese also study French

OA B

Please help!

Ok - lets make a grid


---------------Japanese-----------non-Japanese------------Total

French------------16 ----------------------- ----------------------F

non-French-------J-16 ----------------------- ----------------------X-F

Total--------------J-----------------------X-J----------------------X

Let the total number of children who speak french and japanese = X

Total number of students who speak Japanese = J
J>100

Total number of students who speak french = F
or F = X-J

4% of students who speak F = 4F/100

Statement 1:

students who speak both French and Japanese = 16

No info on students who don't speak Japanese or who don't speak French.

Need that info to complete the grid.

statement I - INSUFFICIENT


Statement II

10% of students who speak Japanese also speak french.

Therefore, 10J/100 = 4F/100
10J = 4F
5J = 2F
F/J=5/2

Or - More students speak french than Japanese

Statement II is sufficient. :)
