Conversion of Indian Graduation Percentage to GPA ??

Hi Guys,
I searched a lot on online but found quite a few ways of calculating GPA and so thought to ask if there is any specific way of calculating it.

Nationality : Indian
Graduation : BE 80% (highest is 85%)

Please let me know on how to calculate the GPA on scale of 4. Is it comparative or direct calculation in 4 ?

Different schools ask that you report grades differently: some, like Columbia, want you to convert to a 4.0 scale when you enter your info (see https://www4.gsb.columbia.edu/mba/learnm ... /start#GPA), others want you to preserve the native reporting used by your school. Transcripts are also always required. In all cases, the adcom will know how to deal with the reporting system from your university; they will have plenty of candidates from your part of the world before.

Used by most schools - the apply yourself of HBS has an application instructions page and it cites

"International Transcripts

All courses must be translated into English on the self-reported transcript. List your courses exactly as they appear on your official transcript. Be as complete and as specific as possible, following the guidelines listed in the "Self-Reported Transcript" section of the online application.
If admitted, international applicants will be required to provide an official paper transcript sent directly from each college or university attended to World Education Services (WES), a third party verification agency. If available, your school should send a transcript in English along with the original language document. It is strongly recommended that you use your official transcript as a reference when filling out the self-reported transcript form. The Admissions Board reserves the right to withdraw any offer of admission already made if there is a discrepancy between the self-reported transcript and the official transcript."
