Type of references to use in application

by sensei_mike » Thu Mar 10, 2011 2:37 pm
Hey Guys,

In selecting 2 references to include in my MBA application, which do you think would be best looked upon by the schools to which I am applying?:

1. 2 references from 1 company, both of whom were at the director level (i.e. my boss and sort of boss)
2. A reference from my boss at my last job and a reference from my boss in the job before that
3. A reference from my boss and a reference from an external partner that I worked with a great deal
4. Or something else entirely?

Thanks!!

Select the people that will give you best recommendations!

If you cant determine the quality yet, I would go for option 2 or 3, as it shows that you not only do a good job today, but have in the past and/or your clients are happy as well.
Also, the different people will be able to comment on different abilities of yours.

Hi

All your sources are credible.

Choose the one that you have spent some time with and achieved something so that they have something tangibel to write about. Alternatively, choose the one that you share the best rapport and you know will spend time in making a good case for you.
