Studying MBA is the latest trend among young graduates who seek better job opportunities. In certain cases MBA aspirants go through regular study programs that require them to attend classroom sessions as in colleges. Regular MBA program is normally a 2 year 4 semester program. Student pursuing regular courses usually are required to stay in hostels from the beginning till the end of their curriculum.

Side by side with regular courses, there are part time MBA programs that do not demand students to be residential. These MBA programs are designed for aspirants who want to work and study simultaneously. Post graduate in any discipline is a tough task and to pursue it simultaneously with a job in hand becomes all the more difficult. In comparison to regular courses that extend for 2 years, part time courses are lengthier by another semester as time involvement per lesson in the latter is more. Practically, for all management studies the number of total hours for every lesson is fixed. For regular MBA programs if classes are held for 5 hours daily on an average, for part time courses that comes down to 3 hours daily. As the total hours required for completing a lesson stays constant, the total number of days to cover a lesson thus extends. For this specific reason, the total period for completing a MBA program is more for part time courses as against regular courses.

Advantages of Part Time MBA

The basic objective behind designing part time MBA programs is of earning while learning. For many management degree aspirants it could be a luxury to study beyond graduation as their familys financial condition would not justify. For them sustenance of family members become primary. At the same time they cannot stand to lose the opportunity of earning a higher degree and value adding to their qualifications. Management institutes acknowledging these issues initiated part time post graduate diploma programs with equivalent value as regular courses. This opened the gates to management learning for interested and qualified candidates who otherwise failed to pursue regular courses.

Regular post graduate management courses are expensive and often beyond the means of average income earners. Earning while learning eased the burden on financially stressed parents and guardians. As compared to regular courses that include residential costs, a part time course is free from such compulsions. Institutes only charge tuition fees from students studying part time MBA.

Students pursuing part time programs are able to divide their time between working and studying. These students carry out both responsibilities of contributing to household expenses and sponsoring their own studies. Candidates who are otherwise qualified but are unable to take up post graduate programs because of financial reasons opt for these part time courses that are cheaper and could be borne. A part of income earned monthly could be spent on studies. In fact, this is the usual modality of providing for a PGDM program.

As most of these post graduate part time programs are held in evenings, attending them is feasible even after a day in the office. The whole idea behind devising part time study courses is to give job holders an opportunity and motivation to pursue higher studies.

Normally a candidate to get admitted in these part time MBA courses is required to qualify through an aptitude test. This aptitude test could include a written evaluation, an oral examination and counseling. There are several professional training institutes that prepare interested candidates for these written and verbal evaluation tests.
