How soon to submit applications

by Paulmey23 » Wed Jul 17, 2013 10:31 am
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone knows which schools begin to review applications as soon as they are submitted vs. which schools wait until that round's deadline before they begin to review. I will be ready to submit some applications for Round I early, but I don't see the point in submitting early if they just go into a stack of files. The schools I am applying to include Stanford, Harvard, Booth, Northwestern, Michigan and Duke.

Cany anyone provide some insight on how adcoms review applications once submitted?

Thanks!

Hey there,

The short answer is that it doesn't matter. If you're ready (and TRULY ready) early, submit when you're good to go. It doesn't matter if they read it when it comes in or if it goes into a stack, it doesn't give you any sort of advantage. Or hold off and submit 2 hours before the deadline. They don't care.

None of the schools you have listed have rolling admissions which is the only case in which submitting early would be beneficial.

It's great that you're on top of things though!

Don't concern yourself with what goes on behind the scenes. You can't control that so just focus on your applications. Like was said before - those schools don't have rolling admissions. What would it matter if you submitted your application and they read it that day vs. 3 weeks later? Even if they read it that same day, they wouldn't decide on whether or not you're admitted until committee review when they're all sitting around the table. And then you aren't notified until the decisions date so...again... don't worry about it.

word to the wise - when you think you're absolutely done with each application. print out all of your essays, transcripts, resume... etc... put it in a folder... and don't look at it for a couple of days. Then go back with fresh eyes and go through everything to make sure that it's perfect.
