Easy vs. Difficult Majors

by Pioneer1010 » Mon Dec 02, 2013 3:29 pm
I think it's well documented that astrophysics is deemed a "hard" major and basket weaving is "easy" when it comes to evaluating your undergrad GPA, major and school, but where do the business undergrad degrees come in? Particularly finance degrees?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Business degrees are by far the most difficult to assess and for good reason! There are a few factors that play in. Firstly, the prestige of the school itself. Secondly, the concentration. So Finance at a reputable program would generally rank a little higher than, say, operations.

Overall, however, business degrees fall, in most cases, below most engineering schools but there are a lot of overlaps and exceptions. So a business degree from a top 10 undergrad business program would outrank engineering at a #40 but a business degree from a top 10 would be considered slightly easier than a top 10 engineering degree. There's really no black and white answer to this unfortunately.

I hope this helps somewhat though. If you have other questions or want to delve into this a little more, don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Bhavik,

I sent you a personal message, but it looks like it is stuck in my "outbox". I am not sure if that means it was sent. Anyway, if you don't get it please let me know and I will try to send through again.

Hey, it came through! I'll respond to it shortly. As a side note, the reason it shows "stuck" is because I haven't opened it yet. Once I do, it'll update. Look for a response shortly!
