GMAT- 740, Which school to apply

by [email protected] » Mon Dec 09, 2013 12:33 am
Hi Experts,
My name is Hari. I am from Delhi. After completing my B-tech from kurukshetra university I joined HCL tech and I am currently working as Project lead. I am currently managing a team of 10 people. I gave GMAT in Sept this year and scored a decent 740. Due to family constraints I was not able to apply to any B-School this year. But I will be applying to ISB and other B-Schools next year (i.e. 2014).
In HCL, the client i work for is a US based logistics company. In last 5 year - while performing roles ranging from developer to team lead to Business analyst - I have gain significant knowledge of logistics and supply chain domain. Now I want to club this knowledge with an MBA and pursue a career in this domain.
the queries I have are:
1) which all colleges - India and abroad - should i target?
2) How should I go about creating my profile so that my area of interest is highlighted properly?
3) How should I utilize the time from now to round 1 next year to strengthen my profile?
I know the details are very brief and queries are very general but lets consider this a way to start a conversation.

Hello Hari,
your GMAT score of 740 is not just decent but very good indeed. Five years work experience is an apt time to apply for an MBA. You have not mentioned about your academic background (GPA, school activities, etc). Your current role looks good but you have not mentioned about what you have achieved at HCL. Schools are looking for a significant impact in whatever you do. Just a leadership role doesn't help. Results matter a lot. You have also not mentioned about your extracurricular activities which would have helped me assess your profile more accurately. It is very difficult to evaluate your profile with such limited information. If you write decent essays, ISB is definitely reachable. But, you can aim even high considering you have decent profile.
