Profile Evaluation

by tawal » Mon Feb 12, 2007 12:00 pm
Hi, Stacy. Congratulations on making it to the cover of Fortune & thanks for the great service!

Please evaluate my profile & tell me if I stand chance with the top tier schools.

Age: 30

Work Experience: 7 Years

GPA:
Class 2.1 (British format, not sure about how to convert to GPA)

University: University of Zimbabwe

GMAT Score: Writing in May

Profile: I am a social entrepreneur currently CEO of a business that I co-founded to help accelerate development in my country by increasing access to education. On average, less than 60% of the total adult population in sub-Saharan Africa can read and write with understanding – one of the lowest adult literacy rates in the world. This is compounded by a shortage of teachers and unavailability of books.

Our solution is to use low cost technology to deliver world class education. Using Open Source Software and donated computers, we are establishing "virtual schools" within villages at existing community service centers such as clinics.

We piloted the project in Zimbabwe and we are now planning to establish centers in other countries (Mozambique and Botswana).

As a member of Fast Forward to the Future (a group of young leaders from East & southern Africa formed to develop a vision for Africa and work towards the vision's attainment) I had the privilege of interacting with Africa leaders including Nelson Mandela, Joachim Chissano (Former President of Mozambique and Graca Machel (Former First Lady of Mozambique). The experience left me with a desire to foster development in Africa through social entrepreneurship.

If my GMAT score is good, to which schools will I stand a chance?

Your experience sounds fascinating, and I am sure it will make great content for your business school apps. I prefer not to tell you which schools you stand a chance at - there are so many great schools out there that I am sure you can gain access to. You should think about what you want out of a program, and research schools that are a good fit for you.
