It works both ways- a professional worker may need MBA and MBA may need previous work experience.
A professional might want to get jobs at better positions, improve his or her profile or do an Executive MBA etc to simply gain more knowledge.
To get new jobs and to do an MBA you might need previous work experience as well. In some countries it is more prominent than others. For example jobs in Paris and admission into top French schools generally need previous work experience in a relevant field.
