Good GMAT score -760, but bad IR -2

by san_sri » Thu Aug 29, 2013 3:34 pm
Jon

I need your expert advice

I just got my official score card and my IR score is 2 (AWA-5).

Overall I got a good GMAT score -760 (Q-50, V-44). I am not sure whether I should take GMAT again or I can still float with the help of my GMAT score.

This was my GMAT attempt and I still have time for another shot. At the same time, I am not sure if I will be able to cross 760 in the next attempt (in that case which score the schools would consider?) My dream is to get into Wharton for exec-MBA and I don't mind taking GMAT again for that purpose.

My GMAT score is totally in line with my GMAC mock tests scores; however my IR score dropped considerably.

My profile - M/37/Targeting executive MBA in 2014

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Retake???!!! Are you nuts! :)
You have a 760.
Anyhow forget about the IR. Nobody cares about that.
Plus you are applying for an EMBA, so it matters even less.

Just go to it dude!

REASONS FOR EXEC-MBA
I want to start my own IT Company focused on Cyber security and Virtualization space. Though I have leadership experience in IT domain, I do not have skills to run IT as a business. I want to learn these skills from the best brains in the industry. Also, exec-MBA will give me enough networking opportunities that might come handy while setting up my company.

I have a target of setting up a company with at-least 50 headcount in India by 2017. I know I am starting late, but better late than never.

TARGET COLLEGE - Wharton, Booth, Kelloggs, Berkeley

Your profile looks very good. I mean you have a fantastic GMAT, TONS of experience, and seem to have done every sort of leadership thing possible. Your goals make total sense, although you COULD be more specific (meaning if you know WHAT type of company that will do WHAT and already have a gameplan for your strategy, it can make a much more convincing argument, than just vaguely "Wanting a company").

Other than that you are good to go. One more thing. At least three schools are missing from your list: Haas, Sloan, Stanford. I mean you DO want to start a Tech firm right? So why not apply to schools that are in the heart of the matter?
