Quick Profile Opinion Evaluation

by Eric17 » Sat Oct 15, 2011 2:10 pm
Hi,

Below are a quick summery of my credentials

Education:

3.7 GPA from top 20 U.S. institution majoring in economics

GMAT:

First attempt 660; second attempt 730 (Q50, V42)

Work Experiance:

2 years doing Treasury and Corp Development at fortune 300 MedTech Company

2 years as Investment banking (M&A) Analyst at a top middle market firm (i.e Jefferies)

Extracurricular:

Played D1 college soccer

Currently some community volenteer work (tough to find time woring I-banking hours)

Questions:

What are my chances getting into a top program (Booth, Columbia, Wharton, Harvard, Ect.)?

Is it benficial to have 5 years of experiance vs 4 years of experiance?

What can I do to improve my chances of getting into a top school?

Thanks, I really Appreciate the advice.

Congrats on the GMAT score improvement!!! You have an excellent chance at the top 3-7 if you prepare quality applications. Waiting an extra year would not help (given your IB experience).

You seem to be a preeeeetty strong candidate, and can reasonably apply for a series of top schools. There is little to no benefit from getting yet one more year of experience. You have four now, which means you will have five when you enter, which means you will have more experience (by a bit) then most candidates.

As for what you can do: Take more initiative, especially in regards to leadership at work or any other space in your life (i.e. community service), and of course getting another promotion is always sweet :)
