Dear Stacy,

Does an applicant's nationality matter in the admissions process? Is it a disadvantage to come from a country that has a large applicant pool (ie many applicants, but restricted number of seats?)

I ask because I have triple citizenship -- UK, Canada, Bangladesh -- and I'm wondering if it makes sense to apply with one versus the others. I have grown up all over the world and so am comfortable using any of the three. None of them describe me completely, but all are relevant.

I also ask because I work in India, and I assume there are a lot of applicants here, making differentiation that much harder. Obviously this won't be the deal-breaker, but every little bit helps!

Thanks!

The fact that you have triple citizenship is no doubt part of a larger story on your background. You probably have some interesting things to say and this will be helpful for your application. You also may have a slight advantage coming from a country that is not well represented in the applicant pool. However, your strategy should be to tell your whole story, not to only highlight the least popular country
