Hi,

This is a problem from OG 12th edition. have attached the image.

On the graph above, when x = 1/2, y = 2; and when
x = 1, y = 1. The graph is symmetric with respect to
the vertical line at x = 2. According to the graph, when
x = 3, y =

(A) -1
(B) -1/2
(C) 0
(D)1/2
(E) 1

Ans: E

Should I expect graphs involving parabolas in the GMAT?

Thanks

You can expect problems like this - there is no parabolic identities used here to determine the answer.

The problem tells you that the parabola is symmetric at the vertical line x=2. It asks for y when x=3 so in this case x=3 is just like x=1 because of the symmetry. According to the problem, when x=1, y=1.

The answer is y=1, Answer choice E.
