Minimum among A,B,C

by alexi_laiho » Thu Aug 07, 2008 5:00 am
Who gets the minimum amount if Rs 385. is divided among A, B and C?
(A) B gets 3/11th of what A and C receive together
(B) A received 2/9th of what B and C receive together

1. statement (A) alone is sufficient but statement (B) alone is not
2. statement (B) alone is sufficient but statement (A) alone is not
3. both (A) and (B) together are sufficient but none of them alone is sufficient
4. both statements are sufficient independently
5. both (A) and (B) together are not sufficient

Please provide your answers with explanations..thanks in advance

IMO C.

from statemtn 1 : b = 3/11(a+c) --------------> eq1

from statemnt 2 : a = 2/9 (b+c) ---------------> eq2

From Statemts 1 and 2 alone .. we are not able to make out who gets the minimum.

Combining Statements 1 and 2.

substitute eq2 in eq 1

b = 3/11{ [ (2/9) (b+c) ] + c].

from this we can find the ratio between b and c. [ say for eg b = X c]

sunstitute this ratio back in eq 1 .. u wil be able to get the ratio of b vs a.

We have now ratio of b vs c and b vs a .

This is enough to say who got the least.

Please correct me if i am wrng.
