I am considering to apply to the HEC Paris MBA programme. How is the school perceived in Europe and globally? How does it rank against LBS and INSEAD? Is it better? From discussions, it seems LBS / INSEAD are more globally recognised. Is this true?

The most respected resource for European schools is the London Financial Times rating.

HEC certainly ranks high, although it is less well known, certainly in English speaking countries. However, if you are interested in working in a French-speaking country, that might be an advantage. Any school that ranks as well as HEC is going to offer an excellent education. You might want to check into the placement records of the schools to see who hires their graduates. If you have a target company in mind for after graduation see whether that company interviews on campus or hires HEC graduates.

Thanks. I guess INSEAD is more international, but is HEC is the same league as INSEAD?

"In the same league" is subjective. HEC is a strong school. Look at the placement records, look at the average post-graduation salaries. Look at the companies in your field that are hiring. See if there are student blogs or chat rooms in which you can talk to current or recent students. These factors can helpyou compare the schools. Any school that is in the top ten in Europe will give you a solid education.

I haven't had enough students pursue specifically finance in Europe, but again, checking where graduates are working would be a great way to evaluate that. Or, pick a couple of dream employers and ask the HR department for a 15 minute interview to find out where they like to hire.

That is an unanswerable question. Top schools anywhere in the world offer a great education. Specific schools have specific strengths. Much depends on where you want to work and what field you want to pursue. The London Financial Times ranks schools globally so you can see school by school what one source thinks. That will not tell you which is the best school for you. You need to understand your own goals first.

In general, European schools look for more work experience and offer more one-year programs. Again, depending on your needs, one and two year programs have different appeal.
