Travel site tickets

by Layo » Sat Oct 22, 2011 3:55 am
From 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., a travel site sold 20 tickets each 6 minutes. The adult's ticket is sold at price of $20 while the child's price is sold at price of $8. If three times as many adult's ticket as child's ticket were sold, what was the total revenue on the ticket sales during the day?
(A) $ 11,700
(B) $ 14,400
(C) $ 30,600
(D) $ 32,000
(E) $ 36,000

The sales were open for 9 hours. (from 8 30 am to 5 30 pm) in every hour 200 tickets were sole ( 20 per 6 minute). that means 1800 tickets were sold.

Let x be no children ticket. thus 3x number of adult tickets
x+ 3x=1800.
leading to 450 children tickets and 1350 adult
total revenue = (450*8)+(1350*20)
=3,600+27,000
=$30,600
Hence C
Hope this Helps! :)

Total no of tickets sold per hour = 20*10 = 200
Total no of tickets sold from 8.30 to 5.30 = 9*200 = 1800

No of child's tickets sold = x
No of adult's tickets sold = 3x

1800 = 4x
x = 18*25 = 450

Total revenue = $ [ 8*450 + 20*3*450] = $ 450*4[2 + 15] = $ 1800*17 = $ 30600

option C
