To do Vs For doing

by shikhargmat » Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:17 pm
Is there a logic behind choosing "To do" Vs "For doing" (do replaceable by any verb).
In many cases I find that Infinitive form is correct. In cases "For" form and sometimes both of them are correct.

A tool to break............... Vs A tool for breaking............
Create a team to take care......................Vs Create a team for taking care....................
Drank coffee to stay awake..............Vs Drank coffee for staying awake.

Please clarify.

As far as I have noticed, there is a specified list.
Some verbs use infinitive form and others use gerund

There is a list available in BTG resources.

If there is a concept, I would like to know it too
