Even though his first job was a lawyer, John Grisham has become better known internationally as a novelist.

a. was a lawyer
b. was as a lawyer
c. was working as a lawyer
d. has been working as a lawyer
e. had been working as a lawyer

This question is from GMAT Club test.
My question is how "even though" is going to influence our choice between a and b.

I don't think so Even though will influence choice bet'w A and B. Lawyer is profession like novelist therfore IMO B

What is OA ?

B is correct here. Lawyer can never be his first job. Sentence wanted to say that 'he was working as a lawyer' A changes the intended meaning. A says his job was a lawyer.....
