A seller sells his rice at cost price but uses a faulty weighing machine. The weighing machine reads a% less than that actual weight of the rice that is being sold. Find the profit/loss percentage on selling 1010 kg of the rice.

1) If the seller gives a discount of 10%, then he will incur a loss of 55%

2) The cost price per kg is 5 dollars.

Question => Find the profit/loss percentage on selling 1010kg of the rice
Statement 1 => If the seller gives a discount of 10%, then he will incur a loss of 55%
Assuming 1010kg of rice was sold at x => loss
Let the actual cost of rice = y
If the seller gives a further 10% discount on x, then he incurred a loss of 55%
Therefore, for selling 1010kg of rice at x price, the loss incurred = 55%
and rice is sold at 45% of y
Hence, statement 1 is SUFFICIENT

Statement 2 => The cost price per kg is 5 dollars
This does not give us any information about the selling price or any information about the percentage loss/gain
Hence, statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT
Since statement 1 alone is SUFFICIENT

Answer = option A
