When analyzing -> who is analyzing? -> translator
hence, when analyzing a manuscript in a foreign language is modifying translator[/i]

while in option C, D and E, analyzing is modifying the lexicon
Eliminate C, D, E

Option B changes the intended meaning of the sentence

Hence IMO A is the correct option.

Agree with rijul's explanation.

B has S/V error. defines and parses should have singular subject analytical lexicon.

IMO A.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

Sorry. My first post has some typo about B. I corrected it. A vs B. The only difference is lexicon and lexicons. I am not quite sure why singular lexicon is required here. Oh I got it. verb is singular.. defines

Drop E for THEY...DEFINES AND PARSES (requires plural verb)
Drop B - LEXICONS..DEFINES AND PARSES (requires plural verb)
A - IT correctly refers to LEXICON..and signular verb..IMO

Is B) wrong only because it must match the 3rd person ("defineS") or also because the there's a repetition of the word "lexicons" ?

Hi,

The word "lexicons" has been repeated to take care of the pronoun ambiguity that "it" could have led to. In the original sentence, "a translator" is in the subject position and after because pronoun "it" is also in the subject position. This could lead to pronoun ambiguity, suggesting that "it" might refer to "a translator" as well. Hence in choice B, that ambiguity has been dome away with by repeating the word "lexicons".
This choice is wrong because plural subject "lexicons" does not agree in number with singular verbs "defines" and "parses" (which you obviously know . :) )
