to reduce its stock of disposable contact lenses, a pharmacy sells 7 boxes for the price of 4. Given that the customer bys 7 boxes, aproximately, what is the amount saved as a percent of what she would have spent?

a.22%
b.25%
c.42.9%
d.57.1%
e.75%

qa is C, I chose D. WHy am i wrong?

To make the numbers work nicely, let's say that each box originally cost $7.

So, previously, she would have spend $49 for 7 boxes. Now that she gets 7 for the price of 4, she only spends $28.

Therefore, she's saved $21 out of the $49.

21/49 = 3/7 = approx 42%: choose (c).

The question states amount saved. i.e. the discount...

Aha! Thank you guys. I calculated the amoutn spent rather than amount saved. This is a big problem for my math mission. I am getting a handle on the math but need to understand how to stop little mistakes like this that cause me large point losses. Help Help Help

This last correction of careless mistakes will yield serious points for me.
