According to the directions on a can of frozen orange juice concentrate, 1 can concentrate is to be mixed with 3 cans of water to make orange juice. how many 12-ounce cans of the concentrate are required to prepare 200 6-ounce servings of orange juice?

Pit together ratio Vs. real. ratio of 1:3 means that the final product has 4 ratio units. These should be equivalent to 200*6 = 1200 ounces in real, so each ratio unit is worth 1200/4 = 3oo ouncesin real.

Since the orange juic is only 1 ratio unit of the total 4, you need 1*300= 300 ounces of concentrate (and 3*300 = 900 ounces of water). As a final step, figure out how many 12-ounce cans you need to make 300 ounces: 300/12 = 25 cans.

Alternative method:
plug in the answers back into the question. If you use 25 cans of 12 ounces each, you have 12*25=300 ounces of conctrate, which is combined with three times that amount in water, or 300*3=900 ounces water (ratio of 1:3). The resulting total is 900+300=1200 ounces - exactly the 200 servings of 6 ounces each you need, so A is the right answer. Any greater answer will result in too much orange juice.

200 6 oz servings = 100 12 oz servings.

1 part conc + 3 parts water = 4 parts juice

25 parts conc + 75 parts water = 100 parts juice

Thus, for 100 12 oz servings of juice, 25 12 oz cans of concentrate are required.

IMO it should be 100 12-ounce cans of concentrate. that is E
200 6-ounce OJ = 200 6-ounce concentrate + 600 6-ounce water and 200 6-ounce conc. = 100 12-ounce conc.

another way to think about this by using the 12 oz = 1 can clue.

we know we need 1 can OJC + 3 cans water to make OJ, which makes we can make OJ in batches of 48oz.

then we ask, how many 6 ounce cups of juice can you get out of 48 oz of OJ? 48/6 = 8.

so to solve for how many 48oz batches of OJ you need to make, 200/8 = 25. and since each batch requires 1 can of concentrate, that means we need 25 cans.
