Xm = Transactions of salesman X in May
Ym = Transactions of salesman Y in May
Xj = Transactions of salesman X in June
Yj = Transactions of salesman Y in June

We have to find the ratio Xj:Yj

(1) In June 1989, Salesperson X made 50 percent more sales
transactions than Salesperson Y did in May 1989.

Therefore,
Xj = 1.5 Ym

No information about Yj.
Hence, Not Sufficient

(2) In June 1989, Salesperson Y made 25 percent
more sales transactions than in May 1989.

Therefore,
Yj = 1.25Ym

No information about Xj
Hence, not sufficient

Taking (1) and (2) together,

Xj/Yj = 1.5Ym/1.25Ym = 6:5

Hence, taking both statements together, we can find the ratio

Answer - C

What is (June X)/(June Y)?

Statement 1: In June 1989, Salesperson X made 50 percent more sales transactions than Salesperson Y did in May 1989.
(June X)/(May Y) = 150/100 = 3/2.
INSUFFICIENT.

Statement 2: In June 1989, Salesperson Y made 25 percent more sales transactions than in May 1989.
(June Y)/(May Y) = 125/100 = 5/4.
INSUFFICIENT.

Statements combined:
Ratios can be MULTIPLIED:
(June X)/(June Y) = (June X)/(May Y) * (May Y)/(June Y) = 3/2 * 4/5 = 6/5.
SUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is C.
