Deers

Of all the wild animals in their area, none was more useful to the Delaware tribes than the Virginia white-tailed deer: it was a source of meat, and its hide was used for clothing, its antlers and bones for tools, and its sinews and gut for bindings and glue.

(A) deer: it was a source of meat, and its hide was used for clothing, its antlers and bones for tools, and its sinews and gut
(B) deer: it was a source of meat, and its hide used for clothing, with its antlers and bones for tools, and its sinews and gut used
(C) deer, which was a source of meat, with its hide used for clothing, antlers and bones for tools, as well as its sinews and gut used
(D) deer, which, as well as being a source of meat, its hide was used for clothing, its antlers and bones for tools, and its sinews and gut were
(E) deer, with, as well as being a source of meat, its hide used for clothing, its antlers and bones for tools, and its sinews and gut

Can anyone explain why A is correct other than its less crappy than the others. I picked A, the right answer, but was a guess after eliminating the others.

that's the basic GMAT strategy, eliminate the crappy choices or ones that you see with errors

B: "...it was a source of meat, and its hide used for clothing, with its antlers and bones" not parallel

C: "...which was a source of meat, with its hide used" pronoun its referring back to meat or the deer?

D: if you get rid of the modifying phrases should read: "deer, which its hide was used for clothing" incorrect expression

E: "with... its hide used for clothing..." wrongly used. The deer is not useful "with" its hide used for whatever.

I dunno. I still don't get it it. I don't think any of them are parallel. In A, the deer is the subject. while in the rest of the sentence takes the possessive form. I just picked A because it sounds better than the rest.

"its antlers and bones for tools, and its sinews and gut" is subordinate to "its hide was used for clothing"? That's the parallelism?
