Since we are dealing in %, lets assume he had 100 apples to begin with

>A vendor sells 60 percent of apples
Sold = 60

>throws away 15 percent of the remainder
thrown =15x40/100 = 6

Remainder at the end of the day = 100 - 66 = 34

>Next day he sells 50 percent of the remainder and throws away the rest.
50% of remainder sold means he sold 17, and threw away 17

So, (A)
