Is the OA A?

B is wrong as it takes out may and sounds like certainty

C is wrong because the original sentence means that people are at risk of developing illness, C says illness are at a higher risk of development

D misses the risk part and attributes vitamin E excess to developing certain illnesses

E is wrong because there in nothing like increase in development risk

A looks ok because it uses the subjunctive tone and avoids a "to be form" or "should"

may here shows a possibility
actually shows a definite thing

so, i think that only one of these should be used at a time
so, i choose B

can someone elabourate on this?

B also uses the same subjunctive tone "suggest that". We cannot have a assertive and confirming tone when subjunctive is used.

Chidcguy, is this some sort of a grammar rule? I have never come across this so far. Would you mind explaining the source of such a rule.

In real world advertising for such products adopts the use of "may" which covers them legally from any liabilities. But in the other hand, the word "suggest" in beginning of this sentence makes it redundant to use the word "may". The uncertainty element is already covered by the word "suggest" and doesn't need a reinforcement in the later part of the sentence.

With that said, I'll go with B.

Option A and B are close...

Though initially I chose Option A, but explanation by wizardofwashington is good...

"suggest" and "may" are "actually" doing the same thing :)

by the way... i dont understand when it is said "OA is A"
OA stands for ??? "Optimum Answer"??? "Official Answer " ???

Thank you.

Here it refers to what?
